The Maple Leaf International Muzzle Loading Associaiton (M.L.I.M.L.A) hosts the National Muzzle Loading Championships in International style shooting events. These include Rifle, Pistol and Shotgun events. Each are unique in their use and complexity making shooting multiple events a challenge.
The rifle events consist of three different shooting positions standing, kneeling and prone. Different styles of ignition systems are used that include percussion, flint and matchlock. Depending upon the event, each is shot at different distances including 25, 50 or 100 meters.
The pistol events consist of the same ignition systems as the rifle events and are all shot using a standing one-handed firing position. Each event is shot at either 25 or 50 meters depending on the match.
The shotgun events use only flint and percussion styles of ignition. Percussion is shot from five different shooting stations, while flint is shot from three different shooting positions.
These will generally have a front and rear site, and may have a set trigger and/or adjustable rear site. Generally pistols with a caliber less than 50 are more commonly used in competition.
