We are seeking people who are interested in learning about Muzzle Loading and who have a competitive spirit. Both history buffs and competitive target shooters are member of the association and have a great time!!
Looking beyond the smoke and for those unfamiliar with muzzle loading precision shooting may not be the first image that comes to mind when thinking of firearms designed in the 18th and 19th century. Make no mistake though; these firearms are capable of remarkable accuracy.

Events are held at 25 m and 50 m for pistol, 50 m for musket, and 50 m and 100 m for rifle. In addition, there are Down the Line (DTL) clay pigeon shooting events. Competitions are held in two classes, one for original firearms and a second for reproduction firearms: 'O' and 'R' respectively.
The Canadian team is selected annually through a qualification process. The World Muzzle Loading Championships, held since 1972, is the highest level of target shooting with muzzle loading ams. Firearms used range from Japanese matchlock muskets and flintlock arms of the American Revolution, to percussion rifles and pistols of the Civil War era. In 2014, there were just under 400 competitors, representing over 24 countries.
Coaching and training by certified coaches under the National Coaching Certification Program are available.
Course of Fire: Thirteen shots are fired, yet only the best 10 count. Targets are the same as those used by the iSSF (formerly ISU). Distances vary from 25 m to 100 m, depending on the event and the discipline. Shotgun events are shot at international speed and consist in shooting 25 birds in 45 minutes.
